When a child is diagnosed with cancer, leukaemia or other life threatening illnesses that requires ongoing treatment, it places a tremendous strain on all the members of the family. In some cases, treatments can go on for many months, sometimes years.
Ronald McDonald House enables country families with a child undergoing treatment for cancer or other serious illnesses at Princess Margaret Hospital to stay together in a safe and homelike environment during treatment.
Located just across the street from Princess Margaret Hospital, the House can accommodate up to 18 families in 12 private room and six family units. Other amenities within the complex are a communal lounge, library, toy room, computer room, a parent quiet room, dining area, large kitchen and laundry.
Adam Gilchrist, retired Australian wicketkeeper, became the patron of Ronald McDonald House in 2000. Adam’s easy going nature and caring attitude gives encouragement to everyone he meets and we are so fortunate to have him as our patron.
