Princess Margaret Hospital
WA Newborn Screening Program
Each fortnight, the screening program notifies each hospital or
midwife of the names of those babies from whom it received cards and has completed
- The hospital or midwife is responsible for checking these reports
and making sure that all babies born under their care have been screened and for organising any repeat
- Contact the screening program if any baby’s name is missing
from the list and check if a sample has been received.
- Hospitals should ensure that a nominated person e.g. community
liaison midwife or unit manager of maternity, is responsible for handling telephone
calls and correspondence regarding newborn screening, and for organising any repeat
- Significantly abnormal test results are reported by telephone
in order to arrange urgent follow-up.
